To celebrate National Volunteer Month this April, we honor the countless volunteers impacting San Antonio.

During the height of the pandemic, volunteers responded immediately, helping transform service delivery to those falling deeper in need. With their help we were able to:

  • Create a volunteer website to connect volunteers with agency opportunities.
  • Help over 1,0000 volunteers send good wishes to front line workers via our Thank-a-thon.
  • Participate in Get Shift Done, providing wages to hourly workers who served volunteer shifts at nonprofit agencies providing food to families in need.
  • Host a virtual awards program to honor volunteers.

“One of the greatest gifts an individual can give is their time,” said Kim K. Abernethy, ChildSafe President and CEO. “At ChildSafe, our volunteers make a direct and meaningful impact in the lives of the children and families we serve every day. Whether through skilled labor, re-stocking our Whataburger Resource Room with donated items, organizing files, or clearing out and mulching our high ropes course, our volunteers continue to be a tremendous resource for us. The strong ecosystem of our volunteer support ensures our resilience and ability to thrive and make our community stronger.”

Join us in honoring volunteers like the group who makes hand-made quilts for the children who arrive at emergency shelters. The socially responsible 6-year-old boy who delivers birthday presents every month for the children at a homeless shelter. Those who work in the Food Bank garden, and the retiree leading financial literacy classes. Corporate teams, families and individuals support the Shoebox Project, Write Start, Literacy Kits, Born Learning Trails and more.

These are only a few of the examples of how volunteerism moves our community forward with hope and selflessness. We celebrate you in April and beyond!
