“Robert” was committed to reaching important milestones in his life—for himself and his family. He worked hard to arrive at a place where he is proudly financially stable. His story begins in 2018 when he enrolled in United Way’s HOPES* and Dual Generation program.

While participating in our programs, Robert reduced his debt three times, going from $16,360 in July 2018 to $9,286 in January 2021 and increased his credit score from 673 in July 2018 to 721 in January 2021.

Robert was able to stay mobile and motivated as he received assistance with tires and schoolbooks, both are vital but often stress the budget. Enrolled in Bexar County’s utility assistance program for two years, he benefitted from rent and utility assistance. He also received help with gas cards and the vehicle registration process. Family Services’ Adopt-A-Family was able to help provide a happy holiday for the family.

Robert and his family are beyond grateful for the support he received during his time as a student. He is now focused on a new destination — building his savings to purchase a home.

Because Robert is part of a community support system, he was able to keep moving forward to meet his overall goals for financial stability and reducing parent/child stress. Thank you for supporting United Way programs that ensure people get what they need for their long-term success.

*Healthy Outcomes through Prevention and Early Support (HOPES). This United Way grant from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS), Prevention & Early Intervention Division (PEI), focuses on families with children under the age of five through the promotion of child welfare, early childhood education, family services and is accomplished through community collaboration.
