San Antonio residents who earn up to $55,000 per year have one month left to take advantage of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA), a free tax preparation service, until April 18. Almost 2,000 more people filed their taxes with VITA this year compared to the same time in 2022!
VITA connects residents with IRS-trained and certified tax preparers to file their taxes at no cost. In 2022, VITA helped more than 24,000 individuals save $5.5 million in tax-preparation fees and connected filers to $39 million in tax refunds.
“I volunteer with VITA because no matter the scenario, I am always helping the individual,” said a VITA tax preparer who has volunteered during tax season for the past seven years. “Whether they owe, whether they’re getting a refund, it is 100% helpful no matter what.”
This free tax preparation service is brought to the community through a partnership between United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County, the City of San Antonio and Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of San Antonio, Inc. Additional support is provided by H-E-B, Broadway Bank, Frost Bank, River City Federal Credit Union and the Internal Revenue Service.
Residents can visit Vitasa.org for locations, hours, documents required and more information. VITA will run until April 18.
